Welcome to the International Snow Science Workshop Whistler 2008 website.
The International Symposium of Snow Science and Avalanche Practice 2008 is now over. It ran from September 21st-27th, at the Telus Whistler Conference Centre in Whistler, BC, Canada.
With over 800 conference attendees from all over the world, this was one of the most successful conferences yet. The list of attendees can be found here. NB this is a 23 page,(147kb) Adobe PDF File.
Videos of many of the presentations were taken and are now available for viewing online at: avalanche-research.com
Delegates to the conference were given transcripts of the proceedings on CD. The majority of them are now also available from this site. Each paper is linked to it's entry in the presentation schedule.
The organizers would like to thank everyone who attended, both as delegates and as volunteers. The papers comittee received over 200 abstracts from which they eventually selected 75 for oral presentation. It would not be possible to have run such an event without the thousands of hours that the volunteers put in over the course of the last 18 months, and in particular we thank Andy Aufschnaiter who had the un-eviable task of organizing the volunteers, ( AKA herding cats).
Volunteers
Andy and Hansi Aufschnaiter, volunteer organizers.
Volunteers
Sam Kavanagh,'keynote' speaker.
We are proud that Sam Kavanagh was our keynote speaker at the conference.
